Job Description:

Create applications and tools to help put our autonomous aerial systems through the wringer.

Airware’s next-generation commercial drone systems are built on a full stack, state-of-the-art, homegrown hardware and software architecture, including microcontrollers running real-time embedded firmware, mission-critical flight systems, ground control software, and cloud data management. The Automation Engineer will help build and maintain a platform that ensures Airware’s test and deployment operations are robust, intuitive, and automated. Although this is primarily a software development position, the ideal candidate will have experience working on embedded hardware systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain test infrastructure used internally to write and run functional and integration tests on target hardware
  • Develop applications and tools to:
    • Tie build, test and deployment systems together
    • Interact with lab hardware and measurement systems
    • Launch and control simulation software
    • Manage and analyze data
    • Manage testbed configuration and inventory
  • Work with other development teams to define interfaces to make sure Airware products can be automated
  • Gather needs and requirements from the hardware, software development, and test teams to improve existing tools or create new ones

Responsibilities:

Build the cutting-edge human-robot interface for the next generation of commercial drones.

Airware is designing a beautiful and functional user interface to simplify the complex task of flying unmanned aircraft while maintaining industry-leading safety standards. The Application Developer will primarily design/develop/test features for our customer-facing, cross-platform Ground Control Station (GCS) software. He or she will inevitably touch many other user-facing applications such as the dashboard utility for streamlined aircraft configuration. Job Description:

Airware’s operating system for commercial drones provides enterprise customers with the unique opportunity to use virtually any drone, for a wide variety of business applications. The Professional Services Technical Project Manager will have the role in delivering Airware solutions to our enterprise customers. Your responsibility will be to support the professional services team tailor a solution for customers with the right set of hardware, software, and cloud services to help them gather data and generate information they've never been able to access, as well as streamline operations to save money and improve safety. You will work with customers to understand and define their requirements, design solutions, and manage system implementation and delivery. You will then work with internal Product and Engineering teams to drive the requirements and provide management of the implementation team deploying the designed solution for proof of concept and limited deployments. Ideally, you have experience managing projects in the UAV or aerospace industries. If you have not, you’ve been a technical project lead and delivered a solution for internal or external stakeholders.

Sample projects

  • Lead the integration of aircraft, sensors and software from Airware’s ecosystem partners.
  • Deliver a complete solution for a utility company to inspect power line or pipeline infrastructure, including flight planning software, specialized aircraft, data management, data processing, and reporting
  • Deliver a complete solution for a large land management organization to map natural resources and habitats.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project schedules and milestones
  • Write requirements documents, technical design documents, and technical proposals
  • Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams Develop detailed specifications for the engineering team
  • Manage solution deployment, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Manage subcontractor and partner integration
  • Ensure that project documentation is created and is maintained
  • Implement best practices and proven methodologies for managing projects, including lessons learned from previous projects

Necessary skills and experience

  • Industrial Operations, Mechanical, Aerospace, or similar engineering degree
  • Excellent writing and communication skills – demonstrated ability to review and write scopes of work, project-related documentation, and develop and present presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve project objectives and deliver projects that go into production with customer acceptance within cost/schedule constraints.
  • Experience in Waterfall style project management techniques, and experience in blending elements of Agile & Waterfall to best fit the needs of teams and projects.
  • Process orientation for keeping team, customer, and stakeholders up-to-date with progress in a clear and concise way.
  • Experience with project management and requirements management tools.
  • Passion for using data to drive process improvement decisions.
  • Ability to travel 10% of time depending on assigned projects and project requirements.

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant project/program management experience leading hardware and software implementation, testing and delivery
  • Computer Science background
  • Experience with SaaS and 3rd party application integrations
  • Experience working in a professional services organization

Job Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer will provide manufacturing engineering (ME) services to Airware’s product design team throughout all phases of product development.  Among other manufacturing related duties, the ME will provide DFx support early in the product definition and design, work directly with the design team throughout prototyping, and finally move the released product to CEM production transfer with supporting assembly and test documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform/lead DFM reviews
  • Support new product development with design engineering in regard to material selection, assembly process, DFM, test visibility, labor time and skill level, BOM(s), etc.
  • Support “the factory” including Receiving Inspection, Functional Test, etc.
  • Determine and drive to completion any and all manufacturing changes that improve quality, cost, lead time, etc.
  • Work with contract manufacturing partner(s) to drive product introductions with proper BOMs and work instructions (assembly, test, packaging, etc.)

Necessary Skills and Experience: 

  • Must understand and have relevant experience in the fundamentals of PCB assembly – SMT and Wave soldering, 2nd and 3rd Op, QC inspection, etc.
  • Must understand the essential components of material flow through a factory for building printed circuit boards, mechanical “box builds”, electromechanicals, etc.
  • Must understand basic features of a mechanical drawing
  • Must be able to write/evaluate standard manufacturing documents; test procedures, process instructions, packaging instructions, etc.
  • Technical degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Well versed in MicroSoft Excel and Word
  • Solid command of written and spoken English
  • At least 3 years working in a manufacturing environment dealing with many of the following;
    • Engineering Change Orders (ARENA preferred)
    • MRP (NetSuite preferred)
    • Assembly and Test fixture design and/or support
    • Field failure analysis with customer contact
    • Manufacturing process design and implementation
    • Project level coordination with internal and external stakeholders
    • MRB disposition
    • DFM reviews of printed circuit assembly layouts
    • DFM reviews of mechanical assembly processes
    • New product introductions into a factory and document control system
    • Creating assembly and test documentation (process instructions, assembly diagrams, work instructions, test procedures, etc.)

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with UAVs or RC Aircraft
  • Worked with assemblies utilizing small motors and printed plastics
  • Working knowledge of ARENA PLM system
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP system and BOM structures
  • Experience with Microsoft ACCESS database design
  • 3D CAD Experience with SOLIDWORKS  -- parts, fixtures, drawings, and assemblies
  • Knowledge of ICT and general electronic test fixture design
  • Worked with a variety of PC based subsystems (testers, label makers, data collection, etc.)
  • Outstanding written communicator
